During students' time in the program, they may have the opportunity to serve as a TA or AI for additional funding. The faculty meet at various times throughout the academic year to coordinate assignments. Faculty will do their best to accommodate all stated preferences. Students are not guaranteed to receive their preference. Students must also be enrolled full time at all times to receiving funding (9 hours during the Fall/Spring; 3 hours in the Summer). Students who do not maintain full time status will not be eligible for funding.

Students with alternative funding sources (GRAs/Fellowship)

Students that indicate not needing a TA or AI will be required to submit information about their alternative sources of funding. Students who have a GRA will need to provide their faculty supervisor(s) information  and number of hours the student is working per week. The number of hours should not exceed 20 hours.

If the student has a fellowship, the student will need to provide the name of the fellowship and confirmation that the student will NOT engage in any student employment during the fellowship period (per the university policy).

Teaching Assistants (TAs)

Students who have an interest in pursuing a TA must inform the GPC of any pending or confirmed GRA assignments. When applying for a TA position, the student must provide 2 preferred faculty supervisors to the GPC. During the first year, students are limited to a 20 hour assignment. After the first year, students are allowed to work for 30 hours. Students must receive explicit approval from the student's mentor beforehand. Assignments for 30 hours are also contingent upon availability.
