There are three Master of Science in Engineering degree options in the department: Master’s master’s with Thesisthesis, Master’s master’s with Reportreport, Master’s master’s with coursework only. Only coursework with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will be counted towards this degree. Up to 20% of coursework may be taken on a Credit/No Credit basis, not including thesis and dissertation.

With the agreement of the graduate advisor and Graduate Studies Committee, students may transfer up to 18 hours of graduate level coursework, which will be counted towards the departmental requirement for PhDs. Only 6 hours of transfer credit can be counted towards a Master’s Degreemaster’s degree.

Thesis students should register for CHE 398A (Masters Master's Thesis) the semester before they plan to graduate, and CHE 398B (Masters Master's Thesis) the semester they plan to graduate.
Report Students should register for CHE 698R (Masters Master's Report) the semester they plan to graduate.

Students who wish to apply for Master’s master’s graduation should email the graduate coordinator and ask to have the program of work for the degree option they are seeking loaded onto their records. Once this is done, they can apply for Master’s master’s graduation online at the beginning of the semester they wish to graduate.
Students should understand and comply with the Graduate School requirements and deadlines for Master’s master’s degree submission. Graduate students are responsible for the costs of thesis preparation and publication.
Report or Thesis option students must be registered for CHE 398R (Masters Master's Report) or CHE 398B (Masters Master's Thesis) during the semester they graduate. Otherwise, their graduation application will not be accepted by the Graduate School.
