This is what the default Start menu looks like for Law School computers. You can rearrange and resize the tiles on the start menu as well as remove or add tiles. You can go so far as to remove all the tiles to make it look similar to Windows 7 but then it will take you longer to find and open applications versus having them pinned and or organized into groups.
Action Center
If you miss a notification you can see them by clicking on the action center icon at the bottom right of your screen.
