4th Year Course Scheduling Requirement

  • Acting Internships - 8 weeks (4 weeks must be in a core AI, indicated below)

  • Critical Care - 4 weeks

  • Electives - 22 weeks

    • Additional Acting Internship or Critical Care courses count toward the 22-week elective count

    • Maximum 12 weeks of away electives 

      • 4 weeks of "aways" may count towards the non-core AI graduation requirement if:

        • a. Dell Med does not offer an AI in that clinical specialty,

        • b. Approval from the Departmental Associate-Chair for Education (or their delegate) is given after reviewing the structure and learning objectives of the AI at another institution, and

        • c. The Departmental Associate-Chair for Education (or their delegate) emails the course scheduler with approval. 

    • Maximum 8 weeks of 2-week electives (including electives completed in Year 2 and/or Year 3)

    • Maximum 4 weeks of Professional Development electives; included in the 2-week elective count

  • Non-residency spots currently unavailable: 9/1-9/28, 9/29-10/26, 10/27-11/23, 1/5-2/1, 2/2-3/1, and 3/30-4/26.

  • Add or drop requests must be submitted a minimum of 75 days in advance due to the compliance requirements for this elective.

Global Health (MED 580GH)

  • Maximum 5 students

  • This course requires in-person attendance in either Kenya or Mexico, and has a restricted number of student seats due to its funding from the Division of Global Health. Registration for this course requires a submitted application and faculty support letter, as well as a panel interview with the Chief of the Division of Global Health. Application cycle opens in September for eligible MS4s only. Processing time is 1-2 months for internal review and committee approval. Accepted students will participate in a pre-departure orientation series alongside accompanying faculty supervisors.
