There are separate requirements to drive the minivan and the 1215-passenger van. To qualify to drive the 1215-passenger van you must complete extra trainings in addition to the training required to drive the minivan.

  1. Contact Jessica Champion in the main office to request permission to take the I Drive Safely online course. She will provide information to log in and get the university price of $10 for the course.
  2. Pass the online course and submit your certificate of completion to Jessica Champion along with your Texas driver's license number and UT EID.
  3. Jessica will inform you of driver approval in roughly one three business daydays.
  4. Vehicle approval is valid for three years, unless your license is suspended, revoked, or an equivalent disqualification.

1215-passenger van approval requires a driving test with Jessica Champion or another university approved trainer, as well as completion of the above steps.To become approved to drive the 12-passenger van you must complete the above steps, and then you will have to schedule a time to train specifically on the larger van with either Jessica Champion or another university approved trainer.

Van Reservation

Approved drivers may reserve and check out the departmental vans by submitting a request to Jessica Champion. Reservations cannot be made more than 2 weeks in advance, and may require justification for use.
