Undergraduate Theatre and Dance majors enrolled in a majors' course are required to attend department productions. For the 2018-2019 yearfall semester, majors must attend the following performances:  12 Ophelias (a play with broken songs), Spring Awakening, Fall For Dance, Marcus; or the Secret of Sweet, Sense and Sensibility and (R)evolution(Re)current Unrest, La Ruta, In the Etherand one of the productions of UTNT (UT New Theatre), Part One. Venues, dates and times are available on the department's On Stage web page.will be made available at theatredance.utexas.edu

All instructors of majors’ courses must include a statement explaining the attendance policy in their syllabi. The specific way(s) in which attendance is verified and the impact on students' grades is up to each instructor to determine and should also be clearly articulated in syllabi.

Major's Ticket Package

Discount ticket packages (Major's Ticket Package) are available exclusively to current University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance majors.

Save over 45% off student ticket prices on the following package offerings:

  • 2019/2020 academic year: Six tickets for $48
  • Fall 2019: Three tickets for $24
  • Spring 2020: Three tickets for $24

Purchase the Majors' Ticket Package online at the Theatre and Dance Store. Tickets may be distributed in any combination the student chooses (i.e. three tickets to one show, two tickets to two shows, etc.). Information regarding this package must be included in syllabi for majors’ courses.

Proof of Attendance Receipts

The department will no longer issue Proof of Attendance receipts following a production. A list of students who have purchased the Major’s Ticket Package may be provided to instructors as needed. Please note that photography and videography in the house is strictly prohibited. 

Syllabi and Grading

Here is a sample statement for inclusion in a spring semester syllabi for Theatre and Dance majors' courses:

It is the policy of the Department of Theatre and Dance that our majors attend department season productions and that this attendance is a part of the coursework for our majors' classes. For the 2020 spring semester, you are required to attend the following performances: Marcus; or the Secret of Sweet, (R)evolution and Sense and Sensibility. Information on how majors may obtain discounted admission is available on the Department of Theatre and Dance wiki under the "Student Resources" tab (https://wikis.utexas.edu/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=51841138). (Re)current Unrest, La Ruta, In the Ether and one of the productions of UTNT (UT New Theatre), Part One. Information on how to access virtual streaming performances of these productions will become available at theatredance.utexas.edu

Note that while all Theatre and Dance majors are required to see departmental productions, only Theatre and Dance majors' courses are required to utilize this as part of the coursework.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE 2020/2021 SEASON


Ticketing 

All ticketing for the 2020/2021 Texas Theatre and Dance mainstage season will be pay-what-you-can with the option available to view for free for all performances. There will be no reservations required.  

 

Because of this year’s ticketing structure (as outlined above), there will be no major or non-major student ticket packages for the 2020/2021 Season.

Performances

All productions as part of the 2020/2021 Texas Theatre and Dance season will be presented virtually, hosted by the department on Vimeo. Streaming will be available in multiple locations for most performances. Links to all department events will be available on the department’s website during the duration of the virtual run. Additional digital content will be available for most performances and available for free on the department’s website and through Vimeo. Dates and times for performances as well as information about the 2020/2021 season will be announced in the coming weeks.
