The opened design (minus the top plate)
The links have been 3D printed and the plates of the box are clear* acrylic cut by laser cutter. The system is held together with M4 nuts and bolts with a couple of washers placed between moving pieces. Two of the M4 bolts will also serve as the slider blocks in this mechanism, one sliding along the slotted link and one along the slot in the front of the box.
The links were designed to have clearance fits (4.5mm) on all of the pin joints to allow them to freely rotate, the slots were designed with a similar clearance in mind.
*Note: not pictured as clear acrylic because I left the protective paper coating on so it would show up in the photos.
Pictured with the Front Plate
In this image you can see the M4 bolt designed to slide through the slot on the front plate. As this is an early prototype the box doesn’t have sides, so also pictured is my hand holding the box together and upright.

Not full range of motion or smooth actuation since to show it right now I have to have the top plate off and only use one hand (have to film with the other) but you can see the smooth sliding of one of the sliders and the free rotation of the joints.
