Overview
A Degree Plan, also called a Program of Work is , is a list of courses required and requirements you need to complete your degree. Before Orientation, EDP students are given access to a digital folder in UT Box (UT's file sharing system). This folder houses your Program of Work, approved Course Waivers, and any other documents related to your coursework. You will use this Program of Work to track your courses and progress. If you have trouble viewing or updating your Program of Work, contact the EDP Graduate Coordinator.
- It is your responsibility to keep your Program of Work updated. Be sure to update it each semester before course advising.
- Refer only to your specific Program of Work in UT Box, unless otherwise directed by your program Area Chair. Programs of Work often differ between cohort years.
- Do not keep multiple copies or versions of your Program of Work.
- Program of Work changes: occasionally, courses change due to changes in faculty, accreditation requirements, etc. If a course on your Program of Work is no longer available, your Area Chair will recommend an appropriate substitution during advising.
- If any of your approved Course Waiver forms are missing from your Program of Work folder in UT Box, contact the EDP Graduate Coordinator.
Note: your Program of Work in UT Box is not an official UT document. It is a guide used for advising and to help students track their progress.

Course Requirements on the EDP Website
The EDP Website provides information primarily for prospective students (as opposed to the Student Handbook, which is the resource for current students). Any program requirements listed on the website vs. handbook are typically specific to the most recent cohort year. As requirements may differ between cohorts, always defer to your individual Program of Work for course requirements. Your faculty adviser, Area Chair, and Graduate Adviser can also provide clarification when neededThere are two versions available:
Blank Degree Plan PDFs:Available in UT Box, these are user-friendly planning tools that you can download and use to track your progress. IMPORTANT: The year on the Degree Plan refers to your cohort year - the year you entered the program (e.g. “2025 Degree Plan” is for students who started in 2025).
Graduate Degree Planner:This is your official Degree Plan in the University system. You will access it every semester for advising, so be sure to bookmark the link! It tracks completed and pending requirements, and is used to certify your degree at graduation. Note: if you have any issues accessing your Graduate Degree Planner online, contact the EDP Graduate Coordinator.
New Students
Before or during Orientation, new students should review their Degree Plan to see what courses are required for the degree, and submit any Course Waiver Requests. YourGraduate Degree Planner will become available during Orientation.
Note: HDCLS Master’s students will not be able to view their Graduate Degree Planner online until they select which of degree option to pursue (the M.A. or M.Ed. with Report, Portfolio or Thesis), so are encouraged to use the blank degree plan PDF (link at top of this page) in the meantime. Be sure to notify EDP once the degree option has been selected.
Degree Plan Updates
Follow the Degree Plan for your cohort year, unless your Area Chair approves otherwise. If a course is no longer offered, your Area Chair will help you choose a substitute.
Sometimes, Degree Plans differ between cohort years due to course changes, accreditation requirements, etc. Switching to a newer version of your program’s Degree Plan is possible only with approval from your Area Chair. Contact the Graduate Program Coordinator to request a change.
Note: students may be permitted to switch forward to a newer version - but not to one from before your cohort year.
