titleEncryption Requirements

All UT- Austin computing equipment such as desktops, laptops, servers, and storage devices are required to be encrypted in accordance to University policy.  Therefore, each purchase should be vetted through the Information Technology to ensure encryption compliance can be met.


Note

A supported operating system is required to implement  BitLocker (home versions are not supported)

**Trusted Platform Module (TPM) hardware is required to leverage native encryption with BitLocker.  Leveraging TPM with Linux is being investigated.

***Servers storing Confidential Information will need to be encrypted.

****Dell systems purchased through the campus UT Market system are automatically configured with a 4 year ProSupport warrantyfor all UT device to reside on the university's network (wired and wireless)

A minimum of a three year extended hardware warranty is required for all computing devices.  If it's a mobile device, then Accidental Coverage is usually included as well.
