If you are not using Box or Box Sync or and still have files on the N:\ drive, you will need to use the VPN in order to connect to the UT network when you are not on campus.
The VPN may also be necessary to activate Office or Windows for computers that are rarely or never on campus.

Step 1. Installing the Cisco AnyConnect client (VPN)


Computer Services pre-installs the VPN software client for computers intended to be used off campus. However, if you need to install VPN, such as laptops.

If you do not have the VPN software installed, please open a web browser such as: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome and type in the following address in the address bar: http://vpn.utexas.edu

Establishing a VPN connection

You must connect to VPN first before you will be able to access your network drive (N:\) when accessing files from off campus. 

 

In the lower right hand corner of the task bar, click the up arrow and then click on the circular icon that looks like a baseball.

  1. Open the VPN application

    Method 1:

    Next to the Start Menu, click in the Search box and type in Cisco.
    When you see Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client, click the icon to open it.

    Click the Start Menu

    Scroll down until you find the Cisco folder, click on it to expand it.
    Then click on Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client

  2. If the address is already entered click Connect.

Accessing the Network Drive

 

  1. Open File Explorer

    Windows 10
    Windows 7

     

  2.  In the address bar type in \\austin.utexas.edu\disk\law and press enter.
      
     
  3. If you drag a folder to "Quick access" (Windows 7 - "Favorites") using  for Windows 10 or Favorites for Windows 7 using this method, the shortcut will continue to function even if the N:\ drive does not appear in This PC.

much better alternative to using the N drive is to switch to using UT Box instead. With Box Sync your files will always be locally
