Where can I get a UT email address?
UTmail, https://get.utmail.utexas.edu/, provides UT Austin students and alumni with a university affiliated e-mail address at no cost in the @utexas.edu domain. Those who opt-in to the service can choose their e-mail address and have 30+ GB of e-mail storage. In addition, UTMail provides e-mail for life.


Who is eligible to use the labs and virtual desktops?
The LRC is open to all Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering students, faculty, and staff, as well as students currently enrolled in any CAEE course.


How do I get a User Account?
Since the LRC computers are in the AUSTIN domain, you’ll use your UTEID to log in. As long as you are registered for the semester no additional action is required on your part to be able to use the computers in the CAEE LRC.


Is there a server I can use to save my files?
Four GBs of disk storage is available to all students on AUSTIN DISK, austin.utexas.edu. A home directory with 4 GB disk quota for file storage is automatically be created for you on \\austin.utexas.edu\disk\engrstu\CAEE\your_eid. *** Any files located on the Desktop or My Documents will be deleted when you log off ***
Don't forget to log off when you're finished working.


Are there other options for storing my files?
Box cloud storage is a campus-wide service that allows faculty, staff and students at the University of Texas at Austin unlimited use of Box cloud-based file sharing for academic and business use. Go to https://utexas.box.com to get your UTBox account.

Can I access the lab after hours?
Authorized access cardholders will be allowed into the la area after normal operating hours. After the 12th class day of the semester, all CAEE students will automatically be given after-hours access to the Learning Resource Center, Studio Classroom 1 and Studio Classroom 2.

How can I print?
8.5 x 11 black/white laser printing and plotting are available from all the workstations and virtual desktop environments. Each student receives a printing quota of $25 each semester. Regular black/white laser printing costs .06 per page. Color laser printing is not available under this quota system. The printers located in the LRC are automatically configured for all users so in most cases you do not need to add a printer.


UTPrint: An ITS black/white and color printer is available on the 2nd floor of ECJ once you run out of your allocated print quota. “Bevobucks” (http 

Bevo Pay, https://bevobuckshousing.utexas.edu/) are /programs-services/bevo-pay is required to use these printers. Printing costs are a bit higher than the LRC printers.


What software is available in the lab?
Microsoft Office 2019, AutoCAD 2022, Revit 20222023, ArcGIS Pro, Adobe Acrobat, and Matlab 2021 2022 are just a few of the applications installed on the lab machines. A complete list can be viewed on the LRC website.
Under the TAH Matlab Student license all current students are licensed to install on their personally-owned computers, the same set of products available faculty and academic staff.

Free Autodesk products such as AutoCAD and Revit and ESRI ArcGIS are also available for students to install on their personally owned computers.

Microsoft Office 2019 can be downloaded for free from the Office 365 Portal – https://office365.austin.utexas.edu. Keep in mind that it will stop working when you are no longer a UT student.


Can I access the programs available in the LRC remotely?
The AppD's virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) is no longer available.
