Oscilloscopes
Access
While a multimeter may provide data on voltage or current at a specific point in time, an oscilloscope displays a graph of an electrical signal over time. E2 provides several digital phosphor oscilloscopes (DPOs) for use. You will need access to E2 to use them.
Cost
This machine is free to use. Cables are provided on racks.

Warnings
- Your circuit should be entirely complete before connecting the oscilloscope.
- NEVER connect the ground clip to anything other than ground. This will blow up the oscilloscope, as it is a dead short.

Function Generators
Status | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
About
Function generators can produce signals at a variety of frequencies and amplitudes. They can generate sine, square, triangular, and sawtooth waves. Function generators are commonly used to test circuit responses to known input signals. For example, you can feed a signal into an amplifier circuit to test its efficacy. They can also be used to design audio and various filter circuits.

Warnings
- Before turning on the power supply, do not connect any load
- Before shutting down, disconnect the load
- If running an inductive load (magnetic coils, DC motors, stepper motors, etc.), change the voltage or current slowly, and NEVER turn the power supply on or off with an inductive load connected.

Spectrum Analyzer
Status | ||||||

|
About
Spectrum Analyzers measure the amplitude of an input signal versus frequency. Unlike an oscilloscope, which measures in the time domain, spectrum analyzers display frequency on the x-axis. This specific spectrum analyzer can compare 4 traces at once.
Access
Anybody with E2 Training can use this device.
Cost
This machine is free to use.

Warnings
- Ensure proper grounding.
- Protect the RF input connector - avoid cable bends.
- Avoid overpowering the analyzer. The RF input should not exceed +30 dBm. DC voltage cannot exceed 50 V.
- If a probe is used, do not connect the ground lead to high voltage.
