November 30-December 3, 2023 They’ve got a plan. Leo and Lizzy Martinez want to be the smartest kids in the world! The children of hardworking immigrants, big brother Leo has convinced his little sis that being smart is the key to helping their family escape a tough, uncertain reality. The first step in the plan—Leo will win the local TV kids’ quiz show. But when their parents refuse to let him join the quiz team, Lizzy learns there’s something deeper driving Leo—something that makes life that much more challenging and unpredictable for her brother and her family. The Smartest Girl in the World takes a look at the bonds of family and the key to facing life’s challenges togetherto the stage in a series of new works of choreography by students and guest artists.


James and the Giant Peach
Adapted for the stage by David Wood from the book by Roald Dahl
Directed by Rodolfo Robles Cruz

In this delightful stage adaptation, Roald Dahl’s classic tale is faithfully told by James himself along with the insect characters – Miss Spider, Old-Green-Grasshopper, Centipede, Ladybird and Earthworm. The play begins at the end of the story, when James and his friends are living in the giant peach stone in Central Park, New York.

UTNT (UT NEW THEATRE)
February 29-March 3, 2024

UTNT (UT New Theatre) presents newly developed works from playwrights of Texas Theatre and Dance and Michener Center for Writers. Now celebrating its 17th 18th season, this showcase exists as an incubator for new work, with many plays continuing on to be professionally produced across the country. UTNT (UT New Theatre) 2025 will feature four new works by graduate playwrights.


UT Dance Repertory Theatre presents Points of Intersection
April 4-7, 2024

Points of Intersection showcases the genre-bending versatility and technical prowess of the Department of Theatre and Dance’s resident dance company, Dance Repertory Theatre. These stunning new works have been created by guest artists from across the country and abroad, alongside the work of current M.F.A. in Dance candidates and the annual Haruka Weiser Memorial Commission. Points of Intersection will also feature the work of award-winning dance artist Claudia Lavista, artistic co-director of Delfos Danza Contemporanea.

Romeo y Juliet

Powerful choreography and innovative dance return to the B. Iden Payne stage in Dance Repertory Theatre’s spring concert. Presenting new works and celebrating the return of the Haruka Weiser Memorial Commission, DRT SPRING celebrates expression and connection through movement.


The 2025 Cohen New Works Festival 

The Cohen New Works Festival is a biennial, week-long showcase of new work created by students at The University of Texas at Austin held in various locations in and around UT campus. It is not just an event, but a celebration of a continuously ongoing process–the creation of new work.
