The Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrometer (IGRINS) is a near-infrared spectrometer with coverage of the near-IR H & K bands 1.45-2.45 microns with a spectral resolution of ~45000 (8 km s-1). IGRINS was commissioned in 2014 on the 2.7 m telescope at McDonald Observatory. It has It is a joint collaboration between The University of Texas at Austin and the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI).
IGRINS Status:
IGRINS is currently a visiting instrument at Gemini South. For more information see https://sites.google.com/site/igrinsatgemini/ and https://www.gemini.edu/instrumentation/igrins
The plan is for it to return to the 2.7 m telescope at McDonald Observatory sometime in 2024.
IGRINS-2 is a "twin" of IGRINS being built by KASI and will soon be commissioned as a facility instrument on Gemini North. See https://www.gemini.edu/instrumentation/future-instruments/igrins-2 for more information about IGRINS-2.
The standard acknowledgement for IGRINS must be in every publication using IGRINS data:
This work used the Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrometer (IGRINS) that was developed under a collaboration between the University of Texas at Austin and the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) with the financial support of the Mt. Cuba Astronomical Foundation, of the US National Science Foundation under grants AST-1229522 and AST-1702267, of the McDonald Observatory of the University of Texas at Austin, of the Korean GMT Project of KASI, and Gemini Observatory.
