Annual Open Rank Postings - Professional Track Faculty

Academic departments are strongly encouraged to publish each fall an open rank posting on Interfolio for professional-track teaching positions. Departments can hire from this applicant pool throughout the year as needed, to cover temporary instructor vacancies in scheduled courses.

The department should close each annual job posting at the end of each academic year and communicate with all applicants. It is recommended to close the position just prior to posting a new one for the next AY in order to maintain a consistent, current applicant pool.

New professional-track faculty may be offered only one-year contracts for their first six semesters in rank at UT Austin.

A job posting template will be shared with each academic department chair and Administrative Manager at the beginning of the fall semester, and will also be made available on Box (access restricted; see Step 1 in the table below).

Draft a job posting for the upcoming AY using the COE template on Box: COE Annual Professional Track Faculty Posting Template 20XX-XY

Review draft posting with chair and revise as needed.

August

Post position to Interfolio for upcoming AY, following the instructions at COE: Interfolio - Posting a Position.

Throughout the Academic Year

Manage applicant pool in Interfolio; hire qualified candidates according to department need.

Summer

Once it is confirmed that all positions for the AY (including summer teaching) are filled, communicate with all applicants.

July-August

After all summer instruction needs have been covered, and just prior to posting a new position for the next AY

Close position in Interfolio. 

Immediately after the conclusion of a faculty search, be sure to close the Interfolio position (archive) and indicate an outcome. For searches that did not result in selection of a candidate, add a note about why no selection was made (no positions available for annual posting, no qualified applicants, etc. ).
