Plugin: How to configure sequential order numbering

By default, order numbers are semi-random, jumping up random increments, which make tracking order history difficult. There is a free plugin that can override this behavior and implement sequential order numbering. (paid version gives more customization options)

  1. Install “Custom Order Numbers for WooCommerce” (by Tyche)
  2. Navigate to the WordPress admin page.
  3. From the sidebar on the left, hover over WooCommerce and select Settings.
  4. Click on the Custom Orders tab. From here, you can choose the order number that the next order placed will have by changing Sequential: Next order number. Once you are satisfied with your changes, scroll to the bottom and click the green Save changes button.
    1. There are other options you can use if you get the paid premium version of the plugin, like using the current date as part of the order number.
  5. To retroactively change previous orders to start at a different number, you can do so on the Renumerate Orders tab.
    1. Here, clicking Renumerate orders will retroactively re-number ALL previous orders, starting at the number set in the Sequential: Next order number box from step 3.
