The Austin Active Directory hostnames are grouped into two categories: Load-balanced Servers and Domain Controllers.
Load-balanced Servers
The load-balanced servers are the supported hostnames for applications accessing with the Austin Active Directory. The hostnames of the load-balanced servers are documented below:
- directory.austin.utexas.edu - The preferred load-balanced hostname for accessing the Austin Active Directory. The hostname supports LDAP connections over SSL on port 636. This hostname is both globally and locally load-balanced to provide the highest possible uptime to customers.
- austin.utexas.edu - The alternate load-balanced hostname for accessing the Austin Active Directory. The hostname supports LDAP connections on port 389 and LDAP connections over SSL on port 636. This hostname leverages DNS round-robine for load balancing and should be utilized when directory.austin.utexas.edu cannot be used due to application design.
Domain Controllers
Domain controller hostnames should not be used in application configurations without prior approval from the Active Directory team. |
