There is a new Jira instance as of Tuesday, January 20, 2020. Any changes made to issues in the old Jira after 5pm on January 17 will not be migrated to the new Jira.
Meet the new Jira at https://utexas-provost-issues.atlassian.net
If you get to the login screen and it asks you for an email address, use your_eid@eid.utexas.edu. Once entered, you should be redirected to single sign on using your UT EID / Password.
If it suggests logging in with Facebook or Google, don’t do it. You'll need to use your your EID to access your account.

By default, Jira will set the Projects page as your home page. It will also suggest that you make the Your Work page the home page. The projects page is just that... a way to find projects with a few recently viewed at the top. The Your Work page has three tabs that seems more useful: recently viewed, assigned work, and starred items. The items displayed on the view and starred tabs can include boards, filters, projects, issues, etc.
As far as I can tell, these are your only two choices for home page.

There are a few newish icons in the sidebar at the far left.
| Goes to your home page, either Projects or Your Work. |
|
|
| Search sidebar, including recently viewed items. |
| Adds a new Issue. |
Shows your recent and starred items. One interesting note: if you want to star an item so it appears in the sidebar, you would think there would be an icon in the upper right, say, next to the Share icon. But you would be wrong. To star an item that you are viewing, open the Star Sidebar, scroll down to the recently viewed items and add your star there... very intuitive.

It is pretty handy. The big search box at the top is a basic text search that will find Issues, Epics, etc as well as Boards, Projects, and Filters. So pretty much everything.
And the View All links at the bottom will send you to the Advanced Search for Issues, Boards, Projects, etc.
Creating an issue is the same as before except Teams no longer exist, as you can see below in orange. Instead, they have been replaced by Squads.

The first four items simply link to the relevant page. |
Maybe you have gone to an issue and find that attachments aren't showing up properly, like in the below screenshot. And maybe when you download an attachment, the file type is missing and you can't open it...

The new cloud instance of Jira does not track the link between Initiatives and Epics. The various teams in AIS will be recreating those links for existing Initiatives/Epics as "Linked Issues" relationships. If you are creating new Initiatives or Epics, there are a few steps to link them properly:
![]()
This is basically the same but the values in the steps 4 and 5 will be reversed
