What has changed with the IGRINS Control Software for DCT?

Using IGRINS at DCT is detailed here:

Observer Cookbook - DCT 4.3m

Also, there are changes to the SNR expectations based on the seeing:

SNR Estimates and Guidelines

If you are familiar with using IGRINS, then here is a summary of the changes that were made for DCT.

1) There is a new startup procedure if the ICC is rebooted. Only for Trained Users - see here. Rebooting the ICC is still the first step to clearing out instrument issues like a slow DTP or HKP errors.

2) You do not control the telescope, the operator does.

3) There is no longer a calibration mode since the calibration unit is not in use. The exposure times are given in the Observer Cookbook .

       - Darks are manually taken with the instrument cube closed, the IGRINS fold mirror out of the beam, and the mirror cover closed. All lights in the dome must be off.

       - 'Flat OFF' frames are taken with the telescope pointed at the flat screen in the dome, the mirror cover open, the instrument cube open, and the IGRINS fold mirror in the beam.

       - 'Flat ON' frames are taken in the same orientation as the 'Flat OFF' but with the two 600 W flat lamps turned on. Do not use the LMI lamps.

4) The H and K band detectors can be synchronized by selecting 'sync' in the DTP.

5) The Object Name and Coordinates can be pulled over from the target list with 'get TCS info'.

6) Script mode is now working. There are sample scripts on IGRINS for 'ab' and 'abba' observing, with or without guiding. Start small and work your way to the longer scripts before writing your own or taking long exposures with them.

7) The SVC now has the capability of showing you the differenced image.

8) Important: Even when guiding is running and the centroid is being found, if the button ' send offsets to TCS' is not clicked on the SVC then no offsets will be sent.

9) Target lists are loaded one at a time. There are lists there for the UT/KASI Queue and for A0s. Please vet A0s with SIMBAD and exclude anything peculiar from use.
