Introductions, housekeepingAll
  • Introductions
    • We all know each other (smile)!
  • Review action items from last meeting
    • TCDL attendees, informal LD networking ideas? (A & M is doing stuff: as much or more than UT)
      • Potential informal gathering – maybe a linked data lunch table?!
      • We can use the the #linked data and #general channels in TDL slack to spread the word
      • Michael - The GIS group is thinking about having an informal gathering outside of conference hours (dinner or HH) – Wednesday 5/7 (tentatively) – Make sure to avoid conflict (!)
      • Who is planning on going? Melanie, Paloma, Katie, Brenna (maybe? – has submitted a proposal), Anne, Michael (maybe?)
  • Resources page on wiki

    • review additions, add new
    • share new things on listserv, wiki editors can add here
    • Katie still working on consolidating some of the resources from the early days of LD Informal learning group and adding them to the resources pages
  • Brainstorming speakers to invite
    • Paloma volunteers to create a spreadsheet in our shared drive to start compiling ideas
    • Would be easier to populate once we have a roadmap for 2023

Wikidata Workshop next steps

All

Creating a concise summary report that shows what we have done and the value

  • Standing questions from the Wikidata Workshop January 2023 section
    • Did Brenna or Elliot get any questions about the workshop during the registration period?
      • No (just if people can be added to the workshop after registration)
      • Not sure if Elliot received any
    • Session participant report just for Session 1 (2/12)?
      • Michael has just figure out how to create a detailed report for session 1 and session 2. Will send a new email with the 2 spreadsheet
      • Melanie will analyze and update the attendance info on the workshop wiki page
    • Can we tell if anyone has watched recordings?
      • Yes. So far, 5 people have watched session 1 and 4 people has watch session 2 (most of them from content management)
      • Not clear if those numbers include the hosts watching the recording
    • Indications on whether learning outcomes for using data were successful are not as clear
      • For session 2 – Katie, Michael and Josh got together inspired by the sparql session and created a new sparql query that is now incorporated into their regular workflows at Architecture
      • Plan: Share the summary with all participants and ask for other individual outcomes / further putting into practice things they learnt in the workshop
  • Who will work on this in a spin-off group?
    • Melanie volunteers to put the workshop summary together (Paloma can help with infographics/one pager)
    • Suggestion to have two different reports, one for attendees (more high level), and one for leadership (including the ties to strategic plans, etc...)
  • Timeline
    • This was not addressed
  • Who to send report to?
    • Attendees get report to share with supervisors
    • UTL Leadership Council?
    • UTL Communications/internal newsletter
    • HRC strategic leadership group?
  • Points to include in the report for the leadership
    • some way to explain to as we work toward the future that we need this to get there?
    • link this work with the organization' strategic plan
    • where we are, compared to other institutions

Follow-on events (e.g. Wikidata edit-a-thon?)

  • This depends on people's capacity which is not clear at this point

Reach out to Handbook of Texas Online to pitch collaboration ideas

  • Paloma volunteers to do this
    • Let them know what the outcomes are – share link to the link to the workshop wikipage
Honing plan for 2023All

Where do we want to be at end of 2023? What do we want to accomplish?

Prioritize ideas discussed in last meeting, plot out on timeline, assign work.

Review systems in use and explore/document the linked data possibilities within those systems (+1 Elliot):

  • Alma/Primo
  • Other systems?
    • Collections portal – migration to Islandora 8
      • Taxonomy management (maybe external system?) – still to far out in time
    • Geodata portal
      • Moving to a new metadata standard – will allow to manage links between collections and items within the collections
      • Looking at stablishing links between the geodata portal items and collections portal items, but nothing has happen there yet
      • Currently looking at building a 3D model of the map room (capstone) – will allow for a virtual browsing of the maps on the drawers. Model could potentially be applied to other environments
    • Digital Preservation
      • Not a specific software that can be leveraged currently
      • There is opportunity next year with an intern to look at access through visualization and linking data
  • Should we focus on one system to get started?
    • Focus on Alma/Primo with the idea that there might be potential communication with other systems
    • Keep other systems in mind - Have a spreadsheet in the shared drive to document systems in use and potential use cases for leveraging LD (Melanie will set it up)

Invite speakers to share experience with implementations:

  • ask people in PCC community - the sky is the limit!
  • how implementation has worked - concerns about only increasing workloads or reliance on contingent workers
  • invite lorraine haricombe (and other institutional directors?) to come to presentation (e.g. the exlibris linked data community of practice)

Compile info on places that are doing a great job implementing LD (with BIBFRAME, archival description, or digital collections):

Produce report with recommendations for leveraging linked data in our systems and beyond (this topic has not been discussed) – potential to carry over to April meeting

  • Review and tie into institutional missions and strategic plans
    • UTL's strategic priorities 2023-2025:
      • Accelerate the creation/acquisition, preservation, discovery, and accessibility of digital content.
      • Optimize resources, services, spaces, tools, and expertise for the benefit of users while balancing the costs and benefits of in-person and online operations.
      • Embed the IDEA perspective across the organization.
    • HRC's relevant strategic priorities (last reviewed 2018)
      • Implement semantic web strategies to allow our collection metadata and other web based resources to be more discoverable, interoperable, and efficient

  • Communications plan
    • Identify stakeholders and get input for & review of report
    • Report distribution?
