(RDG) - Microsoft Remote Desktop for Android/Chrome OS

General Settings and Introduction

DUO

RDG uses DUO for MFA - Passcodes and Text Messages (SMS) are not a supported method with RDG.

 

This guide was created and tested using:

Note about Chrome OS: this uses the same android app as Andriod 10, instructions for setup are identical.

Set up the Gateway

  1. If you do not have the app installed you can find it at the link above:  

    • App Icon: 



  2. Open the menu : 

  3. Select Gateways




  4. Add a new gateway by tapping on the add icon: 

  5. Enter the following:

    • rdg.austin.utexas.edu



  6. Tap on the User Account dropdown and select Add User Account



  7. Enter the following:

    • Your eid in the following format: austin\eid

    • Your eid password



  8. Click on Save.

    • You should see the gate way here:




  9. Next add a desktop to your app. 

Set up a desktop

  1. Open the menu and choose Home

  2. Tap on the add icon

  3. Choose Desktop



  4. In the Desktop Detection menu you may see other computers on the same local network. Choose Add Manually.



  5. Type in the name of your resource or IP address, and chose the user account created previously.  If you need to use a different user account, you can add a new one to use for this resource. 



  6. Under Advanced Options choose the gateway that was created previously under Gateway.



  7. Tap on save, the new resource will appear in the home screen of the app. To connect simply tap on it. 

  8. You will receive a Duo action from Remote Desktop Gateway, accept it to continue.
