Restore a folder or file from FA-Jackson?

FA-Jackson is backed up Monday through Friday and we are able to restore files from the previous 5 weeks.  Keep in mind we are not able to restore a file if it was created then deleted or damaged on the same day because it would not be on the backup tape.  Our backups begin at 6pm and run until early in the morning.  If the file is not on Jackson by 6pm, it will not be backed up until the next backup day.

To have a folder or file restored from FA-Jackson, you need to email oa.lan@austin.utexas.edu and include the following information:

  1. The exact location of the folder or file in the format of this example:  \\fa-jackson\common\etc\etc\etc
until you've reached the location of your folder or file.
  2. The date of the of the backup that would have your data.

If restore is not a mission critical restore, it will take place on Friday morning which is when the tapes are swapped.  If we have to eject the tapes Monday through Thursday, it will throw off the backup cycle so we try to avoid this.  A member of the LAN team will discuss the restore with you before any work is performed.
