Who Is Affected?
This only applies to people who use a Mac computer provided by the college. If you don’t use a College of Education provided Mac computer then you can ignore this information.
What Is Changing?
Mac computers in the college that were setup prior to September 9, 2025 use a program named “NoMAD” to keep the password used to log into the computer synchronized with the logged in person’s UT EID account password. This program is being replaced/upgraded to a new program named “Jamf Connect”. There are only minor changes with how the two programs operate and the impact of the change is expected to be minor.
When?
The change will begin rolling out to Mac computers in the college starting Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Computers will display a prompt to proceed with the upgrade with an option to defer. The process takes about 10 minutes to complete depending on the speed of your internet connection. A screenshot of this prompt is below:
The deadline for the change is Friday, September 12, 2025 8am. After this time the process will begin automatically the next time the computer has a connection to the internet.
After the upgrade process completes, you will be prompted to login with your UT EID account with a username in the format “yourEID@eid.utexas.edu”. For example, if your UT EID username is “jdoe1234” then the username to use at the login prompt is “jdoe1234@eid.utexas.edu”. Once you log into this prompt with your UT EID, no further action is needed on your part.
After Change Information
New Top Menu Bar Icon
The top menu bar icon for the NoMAD program looks like a triangle and is pictured below:
Jamf Connect replaces this icon with its own icon which looks like a Longhorn and is pictured below:
The next version of Jamf Connect may have a different icon. If at some point later in the year you notice the Longhorn icon change to something else then that is expected and there is no need for concern.
Slightly Altered Login Process
If you have been needing to login twice after a computer restart or power up, that will no longer happen with Jamf Connect and you will only need to login once. After log in you may notice a new background temporarily appear just before your Desktop loads. This is normal behavior with Jamf Connect.
If you log out of the computer the login window will now look similar to one of the screenshots below depending on if your computer has a working internet connection while at the login window:
NOTE: Computers running the older macOS “Ventura” operating system will have a slightly different layout for the login window but the login method options will be the same.
If you see the “Microsoft Sign in” login box and you have already logged into your Mac at least once before, choose the “Local Login” option to log into the computer. If not already displayed, you can switch to the Login Login option by pressing the button that looks like a little computer in the top right corner of the screen. This button is pointed out in the screenshot below:
You only need to use the “Microsoft Sign in” option if you are logging into the computer for the very first time ever. When using this option you will not only need to log in with your UT EID using the format “yourEID@eid.utexas.edu”, but also perform a DUO 2-factor authentication step. DUO is required every time you use this login method which is why using the “Local Login” option is going to be quicker and easier if you have already logged into the computer previously. The “Local Login” option does not require an internet connection whereas the “Microsoft Sign in” option does.
UT EID Password Sync Process
Whenever you change your UT EID password the next time the mac computer has a working internet connection, you will receive a UT EID login window prompt similar to the screenshot below:
Specify your UT EID username in the format “yourEID@eid.utexas.edu” and your new UT EID password. After you do this and press the “Sign in” button the password you use to log into the computer will be changed to match your new UT EID password. Going forward you can use your new password to log into the computer.
