Adding Content Warning Labels in Avid MediaComposer, Adobe Premiere and DaVinci Resolve

The Department of Radio, Television and Film requires Content Warnings, such as you see on Streaming Services, in the upper left corner of all Student Films Screenings.

This is the list of the content warnings that are required to be included

If you screening submission does not contain any of these then you are not required to add the content warning.

Here are the categories of what the bug should list:

  • Violence

  • Sexual Violence

  • Nudity

  • Self-harm

  • Suicide

  • Substances

  • Language

Download the template for your editing application. Import the Template into your Project. Open the Timeline. Determine which video track you will need to insert your graphic into. In the imported template, move the graphic to the video timeline you will use in your media timeline. For example, if you have video tracks 1-3 used for content, create a level 4 track at the top. In the imported template, move the graphic to video track 4. This is because when you copy from this timeline, it will paste it into the timeline with the same number in your project timeline. Lock all the video and audio tracks in your mastertimeline except for the timeline you will paste the graphic into. Copy the graphic from your timeline, go to your master timeline, move the playback head to the start, paste the template into your timeline. I recommend adding a fade out at the end of the template. You will need to edit the graphic to highlight the content warning in your project. Your instructor should review the content to assure the department that the content warning is accurate.
