JAMF - How To Enable Remote Management - ARD - Apple Remote Desktop

Note you can go the computer and run this script in terminal and probably have to disable and re-enable remote management manually but it works too for one off applications

 

sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -configure -users commpower -access -on -privs -all -restart -agent

Login to the mdm.utexas.edu

Then go to Static Computer Groups and add your computer to this group.

Or you can use one of the existing static groups for an entire lab or make a new group

Remove the computers from this group from a previous session

You can see the computers in the group by clicking on view

Note the computers that were already in the group that do not need the action run on them again and remove them.

Go to Assignments tab

Click on Edit

Type in the number of the computer you want to remove

Then uncheck the box to remove it

Then once all the boxes are unchecked from the computers to remove add the computer you’d like to run the action on and check the box to add it

Once all the computers are added to the group click on save

Click on View

Then click on Action

Choose

>Send Remote Command

Then click on Next

Choose to Set Remote Desktop

NOTE RECOMMENDED TO DISABLE FIRST IF IT HAD BEEN TURNED ON AND IS NOT WORKING. (it will run instantly)

You can check to make sure the command ran by looking at the computer in JAMF selecting the computer name

Then choose History tab,

Management History

You’ll see the completed commands disabling remote management

confirming the command ran

 

If still pending wait and refresh till the command is completed

0 pending 0 failed

THIS WILL TURN OFF REMOTE MANAGEMENT AND THEN RUN THE ACTION AGAIN TO TURN IT ON AS SHOWN HERE.

Choose to Enable

Then click on Next

Command sent and then choose Done to Exit

You can check the status of the command

Go back to the computer group you just sent the Action command.

Click on View to see the

computers in the group

Select one of the computers from the list

 

Click on History Tab

Click on Management History

 

You will see pending or completed or in some cases a failure

These logs show that remote management was disabled and then re-enabled and should work better now

Once that step is completed then go to this policy in JAMF

Click on Jamf Pro

>Policies

Choose the policy

COMM - Enable Remote Management Restricted

The click on Logs and Flush any of the computers that were in

the scope of enabling Remote Management in the previous step to re run the policy to turn on all the Remote Management switches.

Example to put in the computer name of the computer you want to flush

Then press Flush

 

Once this policy runs all the “Remote Management” tick boxes should be checked properly and Apple Remote Desktop should work as expected
