Step One Turn on the Camera There is an on/off button on the side of the camera that looks like this. | |
Must hold down the MENU button for TWO full seconds before the menus pop up on the view finder | |
You can use the thumb joystick on top of the camera to navigate the menus or the viewfinder display is a touch-sensitive screen too.

First Menu to change is Maintenance Scroll down to Maintenance >Choose > All Reset | |
Choose Reset to Factory Defaults
Will have to hit Execute several times to Reset

Once the camera resets you have to turn the camera off and on to get back to the menus –

Press Menu again holding down for two seconds
| |
Next setup the initial settings >Date Time etc. . .

Next is to setup the Aspect Ratio and Frame rate you would like to record.
Scroll down to the Project Menu >Choose Rec Format | |
The settings that need to be checked are Rec Format Frequency Codec Video Format – Aspect Ratio | |
Video Format set that to >HD = 1920 x 1080 | |
Then choose >Rec Format >Frequency | |
The camera should already be set to 59.94 for television broadcast but double check.

Next change >Rec Format>Codec

If you choose >XAVC S-L 422 you’ll get a .mp4 More standard level recording but looks great but will be a smaller size | |
Codec>XAVC HS-L 422 Will provide a higher quality codec but will take up more drive space. | |
Again, you’ll have to choose Execute when you change the codec | |
Finally, before you start shooting Format BOTH Cards Scroll down to the TC /Media button >choose Format Media | |
>Format Media >Media A and B for both cards | |
Select Media (A) or (B) for each card till they both are formatted. | |
When formatting choose >Full Format

The camera has a lot more functions that we didn’t cover but after following these steps the camera is ready to record. Eject the SD card out of the camera and make a back up of all the data on the card to a hard drive | Example of Card File Structure

Copy the files off the card exactly as they are Both folders and paste them in a folder that is labeled describing the contents of your card Card_001 Card_002 Card_003 and so on The contents of the cards all have the same folder names so if you can't put them all in the same folder or else you will overwrite the previous card
