Sony NX800 - Quick Start Guide - Broadcast Production Workflow

Step One Turn on the Camera

There is an on/off button on the side of the camera that looks like this.

Must hold down the MENU button for TWO full seconds before the menus pop up on the view finder

You can use the thumb joystick on top of the camera to navigate the menus or the

viewfinder display is a touch-sensitive screen too.

First Menu to change is Maintenance

Scroll down to Maintenance

>Choose > All Reset

Choose Reset to Factory Defaults

Will have to hit Execute several times to Reset

Once the camera resets you have to turn the camera off and on to get back to the menus –

Press Menu again holding down for two seconds

Next setup the initial settings

>Date Time etc. . .

Next is to setup the Aspect Ratio and Frame rate you would like to record.

Scroll down to the Project Menu

>Choose Rec Format

The settings that need to be checked are Rec Format

Frequency

Codec

Video Format – Aspect Ratio

Video Format set that to

>HD = 1920 x 1080

Then choose

>Rec Format

>Frequency

The camera should already be set to

59.94 for television broadcast but double check.

Next change

>Rec Format>Codec

If you choose

>XAVC S-L 422 you’ll get a .mp4

More standard level recording but looks great but will be a smaller size

Codec>XAVC HS-L 422

Will provide a higher quality codec but will take up more drive space.

Again, you’ll have to choose Execute when you change the codec

Finally, before you start shooting

Format BOTH Cards

Scroll down to the

TC /Media button

>choose Format Media

>Format Media

>Media A and B for both cards

Select Media (A) or (B) for each card till they both are formatted.

When formatting choose

>Full Format

The camera has a lot more functions that we didn’t cover but after following these steps the camera is ready to record. Press the red record button to start/stop recording.

The manual for the camera is here for more information and advanced workflows.

Eject the SD card out of the camera and make a back up of all the data on the card to a hard drive

Example of Card File Structure

Copy the files off the card exactly as they are

Both folders and paste them in a folder that is labeled

describing the contents of your card

Card_001

Card_002

Card_003

and so on

The contents of the cards all have the same folder names so if you

can't put them all in the same folder or else you will overwrite the

previous card
