AVID – How To Export an .aaf and QuickTime export to Davinci Resolve - Consolidating Timeline Footage for color correction

Use this workflow -

First - Export DnxHD Quicktime for "Resolve" as reference

See this wikidoc How to make a DNxHD QuickTime

Next - Prep the timeline that is to be exported to Davinci Resolve

  1. In AVID create a new bin to put a copy of the timeline into

  2. Duplicate the sequence and put in a That NEW bin.

  3. On the duplicate delete any title tracks you made in AVID.

  4. Reduce the video tracks down to 1 or 2 tracks if possible

  5. Delete the audio tracks so that you only have the 1 or 2 video tracks in your timeline to export for color correction in Resolve

  6. Resizing, TimeWarps etc. . . Note here if you have a timewarp effect (slo mo or speed up) it's best to "Bake In that shot" What this means is export that shot with the motion effect as a "ProRes" QuickTime and then bring it back in and overwrite that clip in the sequence with the motion effect baked in.

The next step is to export the .aaf

Right Click the Timeline To Export

Go to >Output > Export to File
