A Degree Plan, also called a "Program of Work" is a list of courses and other requirements to complete your degree. At UT, there are two versions of your Degree Plan available:
(1) Blank Degree Plan PDFs are available in UT Box. These can serve as a helpful user-friendly guide for planning your courses and sharing your progress with faculty advisers. IMPORTANT: The year listed on the Degree Plan refers to the cohort year - the year a student enters the program. So a 2025 Degree Plan is for students entering in 2025.
(2) UT's Graduate Degree Planner is your official Degree Plan that UT uses to verify your degree at graduation. This lists all your completed and pending degree requirements.
New Students
Before or during Orientation, new students should review their Degree Plan to see what courses are required for the degree, and submit any Course Waiver Requests. Course descriptions can be found in the UT Catalog, and syllabi in the UT Syllabi Search system. Your Graduate Degree Planner will be available during Orientation.
Degree Plan Changes
Students should refer only to their cohort year's Program of Work, unless otherwise directed/approved by your program's Area Chair. This is because Programs of Work may differ between years due to course changes, accreditation requirements, etc. If a course on your Program of Work is no longer available, your Area Chair will recommend an appropriate substitution during advising.
On occasion, students may wish to switch to a newer version of their program's Program of Work. Students who wish to do so must contact the EDP Graduate Coordinator, as this must be approved by the student's Area Chair and updated in the UT system if approved. While switches to newer versions of the Program of Work are possible, versions from before a student's entry year are not allowable.
Note: Course Requirements on the EDP Website
The EDP Website provides information primarily for prospective students (as opposed to the Student Handbook, which is the resource for current students). Any program requirements listed on the website vs. handbook are typically specific to the most recent cohort year. As requirements may differ between cohorts, always defer to your individual Program of Work for course requirements. Your faculty adviser, Area Chair, and Graduate Adviser can also provide clarification when needed.
