What classes should I take?

Discuss this with your Area Advisor, a faculty member in your academic area. After discussing your courses, complete the Program of Study and submit it to the Graduate Advisor 

I need to update my address. What do I do?

Update your address through UT Direct Address Change.

I've been attending the class, but my professor says I'm not on the roster! What do I do?

Contact the Graduate Advisor  immediately.

I registered for a class, it is after the 12th class day, but now I want to drop it. What do I do?

You will be able to Q-drop the original class without academic penalty through the 20th class day. See the G raduate Advisor  for the correct form. We can petition the Graduate School to add you into the new class. You will not receive a refund for the class you dropped, and you will have to pay for your new class, in full, the day your petition is approved.

I want to take a lower-division undergraduate course. Will it count towards my degree?

No.

I want to take an upper division undergraduate course. Will it count towards my degree?

Possibly.

For the Master of Arts (M.A.), of the thirty semester hours required for the degree, no more than nine hours may be in upper-division courses. At least fifteen hours must be in the major; at least six must be outside the major. A written thesis is required, for which the student earns six hours of credit in Theatre and Dance 698. Other coursework is determined following an evaluation of the student's background and preparation.

For the Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.), of the sixty semester hours required for the degree, no more than fifteen may be in upper-division courses. A minor of at least six hours in a supporting subject or subjects outside the major field is required. A thesis is required, for which the student earns six hours of credit in Theatre and Dance 698. Other coursework is determined following an evaluation of the student's background and preparation.

For the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), the student's program of study, including coursework and other requirements to be met, must be approved by a committee appointed by the chair of the Graduate Studies Committee. Each student must have a reading knowledge of two foreign languages or knowledge in depth of one language. The student must pass qualifying examinations, write an acceptable dissertation, and pass an oral examination related to the dissertation. Detailed information about the requirements is available from the Director of Graduate Studies.

I need my advisor's signature, but I can't find anyone. Who can sign this?

Laura Gutierrez  (Department Graduate Advisor) may sign most documents.

(Master's Candidates) I expect to graduate next spring. What do I do?

See Laura Gutierrez for a degree check. You should also speak to Pamela about your thesis and your potential Thesis committee. After confirming that your previous and current coursework places you on track to enter Master's candidacy, go to the Graduate School website and follow their instructions and filing deadlines.

I want to change a course to Pass/Fail. What do I do?

You must seek approval from Student Affairs at the College of Fine Arts (DFA 1.103) BEFORE the mid-semester deadline. After the mid-semester deadline, you will have to submit a petition to the College of Fine Arts Appeals Committee. Students must have completed 30 hours of coursework before they are eligible to take a course Pass/Fail.

I want to change a course to Pass/Fail. What do I do? What courses can I take Pass/Fail?

Theatre and Dance course cannot be taken on the Pass/Fail or Credit/No Credit basis. Other courses may be taken on the Credit/No Credit basis at your advisor's discretion. You may change course from letter grade to Credit/No credit during regular registration periods.

I am having trouble in one/some/all of my classes. My professor and I are having difficulties. What do I do?
