Proof of Attendance Receipts

Immediately after seeing a performance, Theatre and Dance majors will request a Proof of Attendance Receipt from a Front of House manager or usher in the theatre lobby. This receipt includes the title of the production, date of the performance, and space for the student's name. Students are to write their name on the receipt and return it to their instructor at their next class meeting. Proof of Attendance Receipts are not available at any time other than immediately following the performance the student attended.

Instructors are to submit all Proof of Attendance Receipts to the Faculty Mail Room (submission box available beginning Monday following the show's closing) or the Information Desk by the Friday following the final performance of the show. Only Proof of Attendance Receipts (not ticket stubs, envelopes, programs, etc.) with students' names written legibly will be accepted.

Proof of Attendance Receipts submitted after their deadlines will not be accepted. Submission deadlines are as follows:

  • Esperanza Rising
    • Receipts due by 10/17/14
  • A Streetcar Named Desire
    • Receipts due by 10/24/14
  • Fall for Dance
    • Receipts due by 12/1/14
      • Deadline adjusted for university break
  • Fame
    • Receipts due by 12/10/14**
      • Deadline is after the end of classes, so Instructors should plan ahead for grading purposes

Syllabi and Grading

As attending productions is to be a graded requirement for every Department of Theatre and Dance major in our majors' courses, all instructors of these courses and students must include a statement explaining the policy in their syllabi. The specific way(s) in which this attendance will impact students' grades is up to each instructor to determine and should also be clearly articulated in the syllabus.

Here is a sample statement for inclusion in your spring semester syllabi for Theatre and Dance majors' courses:

It is the policy of the Department of Theatre and Dance that our majors attend department season productions and that this attendance is a part of the coursework for our majors' classes. Attendance will be tracked and recorded by way of Proof of Attendance Receipts and made available to instructors for grading purposes. The specific list of required productions, the means by which students may receive and submit the receipts, and how our majors may obtain free or discounted admission is available on the Department of Theatre and Dance wiki under the "Student Resources" tab (https://wikis.utexas.edu/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=51841138). Proof of Attendance Receipts will not be accepted after the submission deadline listed on the wiki (2/28/14 for Dead Man’s Cell Phone, 3/21/14 for Kinesthetic Imperative, and 4/25/14 for In the Heights).

Note that while all Theatre & Dance majors are required to see departmental productions, only Theatre and Dance majors' courses are required to utilize this as part of the coursework.

Attendance List for Instructors

The Information Desk staff will generate a list of attendees for instructors. We will strive to post this list to the Theatre and Dance server within two weeks of the submission deadline. Instructors will receive notice via email once the attendance list is available for review.
