Decision Tools (@Risk)
Attention Mac Users
This software is only available for Windows. To install this onto a Mac you should first create a Windows virtual machine on your computer and install Microsoft Office to it. McCombs offers VMWare, a service for installing Windows on Macs.
See instructions here: Installing VMWare for Macs.
The DecisionTools Suite is an integrated set of quantitative data analysis programs that remove uncertainty in decision-making through probabilistic risk analysis using Monte Carlo simulation. Create decision trees, optimize resource allocation, identify critical factors, manage uncertainty in project schedules, and more when you install the toolkit into Microsoft Excel. The product is owned by Lumivero and includes @Risk, StatTools, PrecisionTree, TopRank and other Excel add-ins.
This suite of tools is available to McCombs students free of charge. You must have Microsoft Excel installed BEFORE installing DecisionTools. Microsoft Office is free to UT students. If you do not have it, go to office365.austin.utexas.edu and select "Office 365 Portal". Once signed in, click "Install and more" and "Install Microsoft 365 Apps".
After verifying that you have Microsoft Excel installed, you may download DecisionTools to any Windows computer. If you have a Mac, must install Excel and DecisionTools on Windows virtual machine (Instructions: VMWare Installation Instructions for Macs).
First, visit https://utexas.box.com/v/dtsinstaller (you will be prompted to login with your EID). Download the file.
You may get a warning that the file cannot be downloaded. Your browser should have an option to keep the file.
On Edge, click the three dots and "Keep". Click "Show more", and "Keep Anyway".
Once you've downloaded the installer, you can run the installer. You may again get a warning. Click "More info" and then "Run anyway".
When prompted to activate your license, select “I want to activate a license - my activation ID is:” and enter the license key provided to you by your professor in Canvas. If you are unable to get a key at this time, then just select “I want to activate a 15-day, fully featured trial” to proceed. You can then contact your professor to get the key and enter it later within the next 15 days.
Once the app is installed, you will see the tools (for example, RISK) appear as desktop shortcuts. Please run the apps you need from these shortcuts. They will open Excel themselves with the add-ins loaded in. (You will not be able to open them directly from Excel).
