    DV Video

The DV format, regardless of its mode (miniDV, DVCAM, DVC-Pro) has a datarate of approximately 25mb/s (mega-bits per second). In storage terms, this translates to approximately 3.5MB/s (MegaBytes per second) or 13GB/hr (GigaBytes per hour).

    Digital Audio

Mono CD quality audio has a datarate of approximately 700kb/s (kilo-bits per second). Stereo audio has a datarate of approximately 1.4mb/s (700kb/s x 2 channels). This translates to approximately 10MB (MegaBytes) of harddisk storage per minute.
DV & DAT often record at a slightly higher sampling rate (48,000 16 bits samples per second). This translates to a slightly higher datarate of 1.5mb/s. The approximation of 10MB per minute is still a good approximation.
