Continuous Registration and Progress Towards Degree
Once you are admitted to candidacy for the doctoral degree, you must register continuously each long semester (i.e., fall and spring) until the degree is awarded. After candidacy, you may register for dissertation credits: 399W, 699W, or 999W.
If you have not graduated 2 years after admission to candidacy, the Graduate Studies Committee will begin reviewing your program annually to ensure that you are progressing towards completion of your degree. If you are not making satisfactory academic and research progress at this point, your candidacy may be terminated.
Remember that all coursework necessary for graduation must be within the last 6 years. Delayed progress towards your degree can put some of your coursework outside of the 6-year time limit and would require a petition to the GSC for reinstatement of those courses.
