Grade Symbols

Graduate students in the Department may receive the following grade symbols:

  • letter grades (A-F)credit/no credit (: standard letter grades

  • CR/NC: Credit / No Credit (for approved courses only)

  • Q / F: Dropped course drop (Q or F)

  • total withdrawal for a semester (W)

  • temporary delay in reporting of the final grade (X)

  • permanent incomplete (I)(Quit / Fail)

  • W - Withdrew from all courses in a semester

  • X - Temporary Incomplete

  • I - Permanent Incomplete

Incomplete Grades

If a student fails is unable to complete the required assignments for a particular classrequired coursework by the end of a semester, the instructor may elect to give the student assign a temporary incomplete Incomplete (X). Students receiving an X in a course must complete the necessary work for the course To avoid the grade becoming permanent, the remaining work must be finished before the last class day of the subsequent next long semester, or . If the work is not completed by the deadline, the X will automatically convert to a permanent incomplete Incomplete (I) on the student’s record. Note: .
