Steps to set up Studio 4B for a Reporting Texas TV broadcast

  • Set up microphones and IFBs

  • Set up Studio Cameras and Clear Com Headsets

  • Set up Studio - Move anchor desk, set up floor monitor, reveal green screen, turn on lights

Set up Microphones

The Microphones and IFBs are stored in the brown cabinet next to the large studio doors.

The proctor at the desk on CMB 4 can unlock the brown cabinet where the microphone and IFB kits are located.

There are 8 mics but you’ll only need 4 or 5 for the newscast

If not already inserted, plug the mini-XLR mic into the belt pack.

Turn on the mic by

flipping the switch on the top of the microphone to the ON position.

Set up IFBs

Set up Cameras and ClearCom Headsets

Cameras

Move cameras into position

Move the cameras from behind the side of the set and remove the plastic covers for each camera.

Place the cameras from left to right as you are looking at the set. Camera 1 goes near the green screen wall. Camera 2 goes in the middle. Camera 3 goes near the wall with the AV racks.

Turn on cameras. The power switch to the camera is on the left side of the camera.

Set up for White Balance

Locate the white balance card and easel stored behind the set near the cameras.

Place the card on the easel just behind the news desk in the location where the anchors sit.

During white balancing you will need to zoom each camera all the way to the card until the white card fills up the entire field of view.

The staff in the control room will perform the white balance function. Once complete you can return the white balance card and easel and store it behind the set.

ClearCom Headsets

The headsets are located in a crate stored in the brown cabinet.

Each Clear Com consist of:

a belt pack, a headset, and an XLR audio cable.

Plug the headset into the XLR jack on the belt pack labeled HEADSET.

Plug the female end of the XLR cable into one of the XLR jacks labeled INTERCOM on the belt pack.

Floor Manager’s Clear Com

The floor manager’s belt back plugs into the AV rack labeled INTERCOM.

The XLR cable is located in the cabinet and is hanging on a hook.

Set up Studio

Move anchor desk into position

Remove the blanket cover from the anchor desk and push it forward into place. Line up the corners of the desk up with the RED indicators on the floor. Match up both of the front corners of the desk.

Power up Anchor Desk

Locate the power cord and ethernet cable stored under the LED panels just to the left of the anchors.

Plug the power cord and the ethernet cable in under the anchor desk in-between where the anchors sit.

Verify the lights on the anchor desk illuminate.

Set up Floor Monitor

The floor monitor shows PROGRAM and is placed in-between camera 2 and camera 3. This is for the anchors to monitor what is ON-AIR.

Plug the SDI (yellow cable) into the AV rack on the right. Hook it up to STU MON1.

Plug the power cord into the power outlets near the bottom of the AV rack on the left.

Prepare Green Screen

Pull back the curtain(s) - to the right - away from the green screen to fully reveal the green screen.

Power on Studio Monitors

To turn the TV monitors on, use the touch panel on the AV rack on the left.

Press POWER to turn them on.

Router - Signal sent from the control room.

Crestron - Signal from the teaching desk in the studio.

This routing offers the ability to show images, websites, and other online content on the TVs.

Turn on Lights

There are two lighting panels to control the lights. One is located near the pedestrian door, and the other is in-between the two AV racks.
