The time to sign up for UTBox has arrived!  Over the next 2 days, you will be undergoing a very controlled process to make your access to UTBox as simple as possible.  Today’s steps are very easy, but extremely important so that what happens tonight occurs smoothly:

Sign up for your UTBox account:

  1. Go here to sign up for UTBox:  https://utexas.app.box.com/login
  2. Click the orange Continue button on the right.
  3. Log in with your UT EID and password.

...

Although you may begin uploading files and folders immediately, it is highly recommended that you log out and wait until tomorrow.  LTS will install an app tonight that will make the process of copying files over much simpler.  Look for specific instructions on that process later today.

PLEASE NOTE:  Today’s instructions are rather involved.  We encourage you to ensure a smooth process by clicking here to see screenshots accompanying these instructions.

...

  1. When you log into your computer in the morning, you should automatically see a Box login prompt.  **If you do not see this prompt as soon as you log in, please notify LTS immediately!!

  2. Inside this dialog box, hover your mouse over Use My Company’s Credentials and click.

  3. IMPORTANT:  In the Email Address field, enter your email address in this very specific and unusual format:  Use your UT EID at the front (not first initial, last name) and “eid” before .utexas—no “law”:  YourUTEID@eid.utexas.edu, (i.e., jdoe253@eid.utexas.edu).  Then click the blue Log In button.

  4. Now use your usual UT EID and affiliated password in the familiar UT login screen, then click Login.

  5. You will be presented with a Box Sync dialog box that will probably display “Scanning” and/or “Syncing” for a short while before changing to “Synced.”

  6. Once you verify the “Synced” status, click the folder icon on your task bar near the lower left of your screen to open Windows Explorer so you can browse your files.

  7. Near the upper left look under Favorites and make sure you see a folder called Box Sync.  If you do not see this right away, give it a few minutes before notifying LTS of the problem.

  8. Search for your personal (not departmental) network drive folder under This PC>law, (NOT THE SHORTCUT UNDER YOUR FAVORITES SECTION!!) with your first initial, last name and drag the entire folder into your Box Sync folder. This will recreate it entirely on UTBox. If you have other files on your C: drive, you can choose to move those as well into your UTBox individual folder (first initial, last name) now that you have just set it up in Box Sync.  Do not worry about any department files—they will become available for you tomorrow.

  9. When your folder finishes copying to your Box Sync folder, it will display a tinyorange circle in the lower left corner to indicate it is in the process of syncing with UTBox online.  You can minimize this window to work on other things—just be sure to leave your computer on (locked is okay) until you’re able to verify the orange circle has turned blue.

Day 3

As of today, you now have a department folder shared with you on UTBox that will function in the same way as the one on your N: drive did previously.  The only way to access this at the moment is by logging into UTBox through the web, but this set of instructions will change that so it becomes available on your computer like you’ve always accessed it.

  1. Login to UTBox at https://utexas.app.box.com/login.
  2. First, verify you see your yellow personal folder listed (titled first initial, last name) and at least one blue department folder, who’s name begins with “DEPT-“  Please notify LTS if you are missing any folders.
  3. Click the dropdown arrow to the right of your department folder, just to the left of the checkbox on the end.
  4. Select Sync Folder to Computer and confirm the message that pops up by clicking the Sync Folder button.

After allowing for this time, be sure to open Windows Explorer (folder icon, bottom left) and look under Favorites.  Open the Box Sync folder to make sure your department folder shows up along with your personal folder.  Ensure you can access all the folders and files there.  If you experience any difficulties, please submit an LTS Help ticket.
