This procedure describes the first steps that should be taken when born-digital materials are received and processed by AAA. These steps refer specifically to receiving and logging physical magnetic and optical media, bit-level preservation, and the rehousing and storage of the materials.

Receiving

  1. Accession of digital media
  2. Individual media assigned unique identifier
  3. Create digital media log for inventory and processing (spreadsheet)
  4. Create file directory structure
  5. Photograph all media and move images into appropriate folders

 

Bit-level preservation

  1. Create disk image using Guymager.
  2. Complete mounting tests and record results in log.
  3. Create UUIDs
  4. Bag disk images, metadata

 

Rehousing

  1. Rehouse physical media for storage
