Grade Symbols

Graduate students in the Department may receive the following grade symbols:

  • A-F: standard letter grades

  • CR/NC: Credit / No Credit (for approved courses only)

  • Q / F: Dropped course (Quit / Fail)

  • W - Withdrew from all courses in a semester

  • X - Temporary Incomplete

  • I - Permanent Incomplete

Important Info About Credit/No Credit!

The University of Texas limits the number of Credit/No Credit (CR/NC) , course drop (Q or F), total withdrawal for a semester (W), temporary delay in reporting of the final grade (X), permanent incomplete (I).

coursework on a Degree Plan to 20% of the coursework used for the degree (Thesis, Master’s Report, and Dissertation don’t count towards the 20%).
