LAITS only backs up the “Users” folder on your machine. This typically will contain anything saved on your desktop, documents, music and pictures folder.

UTBackup (Crashplan), is run by central ITS at UT, and provides a centralized backup solution for the UT Austin campus. UTBackup is available for current UT faculty and staff who have departmental technical support.

UTBackup Essential Information

Management Policy:

  • Devices are deactivated after 6 months of no server contact

  • Deactivated device data is retained in cold storage for 60 days before being deleted

  • Users are deactivated if they are not associated with an active device

Check your backup status

  1. If you are prompted to sign in, enter your EID EID@eid.utexas.edu and password

    1. If you are prompted to enter a server address, enter clients.us2.crashplan.com

  2. You will then see a screen similar to the one below with the status of your backup

  1. Locate CrashPlan: Find CrashPlan in the Windows Start menu.

  2. Identify Your Device: You'll see a list of your devices. The top device is the one you are currently using (labeled "This Device").

  3. Open Code42: To make changes or start a backup, select the Gear icon and choose "Open Code42."

  4. Sign In: Log in to Code42 using your EID EID@eid.utexas.ed and password.

  5. Server Information: If prompted for the server, enter: clients.us2.crashplan.com.
