Upgrading Windows
Note: Upgrades must be clean upgrades (machine is formatted). ECE-IT will assist with data migration (if possible), but cannot migrate applications
Requirements
- Check that the computer is capable of running your desired version of Windows

- See your manufacturers support site to see if they have drivers for the version of Windows you wish to upgrade to
- Make sure your software will work with the upgraded version of Windows
- Make sure you have installers (CD's, downloads etc) and licenses (serial numbers, license files, etc) for your software
- Make a note of where data is installed on the computer
Getting the Upgrade
- Contact the ECE helpdesk at help@ece.utexas.edu to arrange a time when the system can be dropped off.
- Bring in the computer and show helpdesk staff all data that needs to be migrated
- Helpdesk staff will backup the entire system, install Windows 7, and move data back on to the computer
After the Upgrade
- Verify data is on the machine
- Verify you have all needed accounts on the system
