File size limit

  • 2GB/file

If you need to ingest larger objects (files), please use the batch ingest function as it allows for handling larger files.

10 steps to manually upload and describe an asset

  1. Navigate to the collection you want to ingest the object into
  2. Click on the “Manage” tab found above the collection title
  3. On the newly loaded page, click “Add an object to this Collection”
  4. Select the content model that is most suitable for the content you are ingesting. Refer to Content models for an overview. If you have questions, contact the DAMS management team for help.
  5. Click “Next”
  6. You are now on the MODS form where you describe the object. Fill in the form-required fields (marked by an asterisk *) and any other fields needed to describe the object.

You will lose the entries in your form if you navigate away from the MODS entry form page.

Do not use your browser's back, forward or reload button.

  7. Once the form is complete, click “Next”
  8. You are now at the file uploader. Click “Browse” to locate and select the object file you are ingesting to the collection.

If you plan to create metadata first and add objects later, you have to upload a placeholder object after manually creating the metadata. See the section on Placeholder objects on this page for further information.

  9. Click “Upload” after you have selected the file for ingest.
  10. Click “Ingest”. If the ingest is successful, you should see a message with two bulleted statements:
  • "Derivatives successfully created”
  • the object’s unique persistent identifier (PID)

If you added an A/V media object, you will need to manually add additional datastreams for CAPTIONS and/or TRANSCRIPTS. Refer to the documentation of the Content models for details.

Placeholder objects

If you plan to create metadata first and add objects later, you have to upload a placeholder object after manually creating the metadata. Download the appropriate placeholder to use with Single object ingest from this page. When employing Batch ingest or Tiered ingest, placeholder files are automatically included in processing.
