Conclusion

What learned from project process:

  • Physical prototypes allow for a greater understanding than virtual prototypes
  • Virtual models may have simple geometry, but the size of the part and vice holding it define the ease of machining
  • It is better have several iterations fail quickly than to have a single iteration take a while to fail, which wastes precious time on a project

Future Work

 Changes for final product:

  • All materials including fasteners made of corrosion resistant material, perhaps anodizing the aluminum

  • Decrease weight by changing material or reducing size of links on the mechanism

  • Make the glove fit comfortably for either hand so it can become ambidextrous so it can easily be transferred from one hand to the other

  • Include a string/loop connection to the slider so that one can be attached if the user wishes to activate the mechanism by pulling the slider instead of pushing it

    • This will also allow the mechanism to be placed on the back of the users hand if needed
