Special note for Windows Users
These instructions apply specifically to the iChat program for the Mac. If you need to connect to the UGS Jabber server from a Windows machine, please contact the IT Manager for instructions.
1. Open the iChat application (found in the "Applications" folder").
2. On the main menu bar at the top of your screen, go under the "iChat" menu to "Preferences..."
3. Click on the "Accounts" tab.
4. Click on the "+" button in the lower left hand corner to add a new
account.
5. Select "Jabber" as the account type.
6. In the account name field, enter "{eid}@jabber.ugs.utexas.edu",
substituting your UT EID for "{eid}" in front of the @ sign.
7. Enter your EID password in the password field and click "Done."
Set up should now be complete, and new user list will appear showing all of the logged-in UGS users, divided by department.
Suggestion for follow-up action
You may want to follow-up by turning off Bonjour instant messaging in iChat.
Troubleshooting
If you receive an error message after clicking "Done", check to make sure that you entered your UT EID and EID password correctly. If you are still unable to connect, please contact the IT Manager for assistance.
