Candidacy Step by Step

Form a committee

Your candidacy and Ph.D dissertation will be overseen by the same committee of faculty members. This committee will consist of five members, including your supervisor(s). At least one member of your committee must be from outside of the ECE GSC.  The process of forming this committee is comprised of several steps listed below:


Step 1: With the assistance of your advisor, identify and contact potential committee members. Students are strongly encouraged to provide a 1-2 page abstract and Program of Work when contacting potential members.

Candidacy Evaluation

Step 1Propose a dissertations committee comprised of your supervisor and four faculty members. The proposed committee will be approved by the students track advisor and the GSC.
Step 2

Once the proposed committee is approved by the track advisor and GSC, the student will meet individually with each committee member and review a dissertation proposal and coursework.

Step 3If each committee member agrees to serve on the students committee, the student may formally apply to the graduate school
