*****Advising Hold on account IMPORTANT IMPORTANT****

Every student in our program has an advising hold on their account for the Fall and Spring semesters, and for Summer. Usually graduate students aren’t required to register in summer unless they plan to graduate in summer, or they are working on-campus in summer as a GRA or TA or other student academic position, or they’re doing research and working in the lab and consulting their supervising professor regularly during summer.

This advising hold can be cleared by simply completing the PhD (LINK) or MS (LINK) registration forms. Choose the form that matches your ultimate degree goal.  These sheets will be routed to the graduate advising team who will clear holds quickly.

This is a bit of a change from semesters past, but we hope that this will ensure that all of our students receive timely advising, and it will allow the graduate advising team to track you all closely.

Clear one hold right now by acknowledging the online Financial Responsibility Statement (FRS).  You must sign the FRS each semester prior to registration.

Individual Instruction Courses

Students may now get signed up for individual instruction courses like Research Problems by listing them directly on their registration forms. Courses that are entered there will be added by our graduate advising team members. Students cannot add individual instruction courses on their own. If you see in the Course Schedule that an individual instruction course is closed, don’t worry. It’s not really closed. You just cannot add the course yourself.

For students whose individual instruction courses are NOT supervised by their faculty supervisor, you may use the process outlined HERE to get signed up for individual instruction courses.  Once you fill out the form, it will be sent to the faculty member and then routed on to the graduate advising team members for processing.

Adding ECE Upper-Division Undergraduate Courses

You cannot add ECE upper-division undergraduate courses (the course numbers with a middle number of 2 through 7) during early registration in April for summer or fall, or in late October/early November for spring. We determine which ECE upper-division courses will be open to ECE graduate students at a later date, and we send a survey to the ece-grad listserv. Email Melanie Gulick (melanie.gulick@mail.utexas.edu) if you need the link to the survey and the instructions for adding ECE upper-division undergraduate classes.
