Visio Web App

A web-based version of Visio is available to all of our O365 users via the app launcher (the “waffle” icon in the upper left-hand corner of any O365 page).

Visio is in use within ECS1 (ADMS, OSFS, REGS).

To install the desktop version of Visio 2019, the user must have a Visio 2019 license key (MAK key) and Office 2019.

Do not proceed with installation if the user is unable to furnish a license key.

Before you begin

  1. Gather MAK key for Visio
  2. Create a temporary folder to use during the installation process, e.g., C:\Temp
  3. Download and extract the Office Deployment Tool
    1. Once downloaded, run the extractor
    2. Extract the contents to the temporary folder
  4. Download an Office configuration file 
    1. You can create a configuration file using the Office Customization Tool
      1. A configuration file should have at least these settings:
        1. Products and releases: Visio Professional 2019
        2. Language: English
        3. Installation: Office Content Delivery Network (CDN)
        4. Update and upgrade:
          1. Deploy updates from: "Office Content Delivery Network (CDN)"
          2. Automatically check for updates: On
          3. Uninstall any MSI versions of Office: Off
          4. Automatically upgrade to the selected architecture: Off
        5. Licensing:
          1. Automatically accept the EULA: On 
          2. Product Key: MAK
          3. Visio Professional 2019 - Volume License: the user's MAK key
          4. Product Activation: User based
    2. Alternatively, if - and only if - the user belongs to ADMS, OSFS, or REGS, please see this page's attachments for a premade configuration file
  5. Move or copy the configuration file to the temporary folder

Installing Visio 2019

  1. Launch an elevated Command Prompt
  2. Navigate to the temporary folder you created, e.g., C:\Temp
    1. cd C:\Temp
  3. Run setup /download "<configuration.xml>", where <configuration.xml> is the name of your configuration file
    1. Please note the quotation marks above; if the filename contains spaces, these are necessary for the tool to correctly find the configuration file
  4. When the download is complete, run setup /configure "<configuration.xml>", where <configuration.xml> is the name of your configuration file

  5. When the installation has completed, run Visio with the user to ensure that it is properly licensed and activated
