Receiving Consultees to the Public Speaking Center

Students will check-in for their Public Speaking Center appointments at the desk in the main office (JES A332)

When a student arrives, please do the following:

• Greet them warmly and ask if they know the name of their consultant. If they do not know the name of their consultant, you can search for the student’s name or EID in MyUGS.

• Click on the Public Speaking tab in MyUGS to search for appointments.

• Use the SOCS list to contact the speech consultant in TEAMS. Notify the speech consultant that their consultee has arrived and is in JES 332A.

• The speech consultant should reply quickly that they are on their way. If the consultant is delayed, ask the student to wait, and you can peek into the Public Speaking Center rooms to see if the student worker is there and missed the message.

Walk-Ins

If a student arrives at the start of the hour (i.e. 1:00pm rather than 1:25pm) for a Public Speaking Center appointment and does not have an appointment scheduled, check MyUGS to see if a speech consultant has an available appointment at that time.

• If there appears to be an available consultant, contact the speech consultant in TEAMS to see if they can work with the walk-in.

  • If they respond yes, the speech consultant will collect the student from the AT area and walk them to a consultation room.

  • If the speech consultant responds no, check MyUGS to find the next available appointment and work with the student to book the appointment.
