Cooperating Teacher Mentor Training
The State of Texas now requires that all cooperating teachers hosting UT student teachers complete a mentor training each time you begin a new placement in a student teacher semester. In addition, the training must be completed during the 12 weeks before, or no later than two weeks after, the first day of student teaching. Due to the state law mandate, if the training is not completed within the above stated time period, it is likely that your student teacher will be reassigned to another classroom and your student teacher’s certification eligibility may be jeopardized.
This online training module has been designed for cooperating teachers who will work with preservice teachers at The University of Texas at Austin during their field placements. Materials are based on the Coaching with Care model; they reflect an emphasis on reflective practice, teacher growth, and evaluation based on student feedback.
Please note the options offered to fulfill this mandate, and complete one of the following:
For Cooperating Teachers NEW to UT: UT offers an initial online mentor training (approximately 90 minutes) for cooperating teachers who have not yet completed UT’s mentor training.
For Cooperating Teachers who have completed new CT training before: UT offers a renewal online mentor training (approximately 20 minutes) for cooperating teachers who have completed the above initial training.
