CII 2026 Ideation

CII Ideation Overview

  • Purpose: CII’s R&D Ideation Process is designed to generate, develop, and prioritize research and development ideas that maximize value and impact for CII members.

  • Scope of Ideas: Submitted ideas must align with CII’s R&D scope: CII focuses on precompetitive challenges—problems that affect many organizations across the industry and can be addressed through shared practices, data, or decision frameworks, without requiring company‑specific or confidential information.

  • Industry Impact: The goal of these ideas is to improve capital project delivery by enhancing safety, cost and schedule effectiveness, quality, and overall project performance.

  • Member Engagement: The ideation process enables CII members, committees, CBAs, academics, and companies to directly influence CII’s R&D agenda.

  • Efficient Resource Use: The process supports a balanced portfolio of tactical and strategic initiatives, aligns ideation with budgeting timelines.

Milestones and Timeline

  • March 3: 2026 Wiki launched and CBA Forum presentation

  • March 9: Launch survey

  • April 22: BOA theme ranking workshop and launch online form

  • May-June: Idea generation (workshops and online submissions)

  • June 29 Ideation first submission deadline and preliminary ideas shared in Mural

  • July 20: Suggested CBAs Ideation Session at the CII AC

  • July 22: Ideation session post-ARC: develop core ideas

  • August 7: idea submission deadline

  • September 21:: Topic evaluation deadline

  • November 17: Review and rank top ideas at the BOA meeting

Idea Generation Survey

We created a survey to capture areas of interest. We will use this survey results to inform the Spring BOA workshop. Anyone can provide input. (The survey is now Closed)

Idea Generation Results

  • We have created a Mural space for the CBAs to share their ideas before submitting them. Your CBA or committee manager will have access to the link.

  • A slide deck with all the ideas submitted in 2026 will be posted here in late August.

Pre-BOA Prioritization

A slide deck with the selected ideas for the CII Fall BOA meeting will be poster here in November.

Final Ranked Ideas

A ranked list of ideas will be posted here following the CII Fall BOA meeting in November.
