Teaching Load Planning Reporting
Purpose: Our shared goal is to ensure that faculty teaching loads are balanced, supported, and aligned with the College’s policies and priorities. Thoughtful planning around teaching assignments helps departments and units maintain strong academic programs while also supporting faculty research and service commitments. By reporting accurate teaching load data, we can identify areas of need where resources or adjustments may be required, ensure consistent workloads across departments and faculty ranks, and promote financial responsibility by supporting course releases and buyouts. Your collaboration in this process is essential for maintaining transparency and supporting both departmental and College-level planning and resource allocation.
Updated: March 2026.
Effective: Academic Year 2023-24.
I. Overview
Use this link to access instructions for reporting planned teaching loads from your department or unit for the upcoming academic year. Note that we are moving from a retrospective to a prospective report, in order to facilitate the use of this tool for planning purposes. Any unexpected changes to the teaching load may be made up to the 12th class day of the following semester.
The College maintains a Teaching Load Reports online system where departments report the teaching workload of each faculty member and provide the rationale for variations from the standard load in the department or unit. In order to facilitate reporting, wherever possible the system is pre-populated with data from multiple sources. The Dean’s Office reviews these reports and works with departments to ensure the CLASP standards are applied appropriately. Policies guiding COLA faculty’s time for teaching, research, and service can be found on Faculty Policies Wiki.
II. Deadlines
Please complete your department’s reporting for the upcoming academic year (2026-27) by April 30, 2026.
In addition, departments should ensure that historical data for academic years 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26 are entered in the system by July 1, 2026.

Note: The system is pre-populated with data from various sources. We’ve worked to ensure data accuracy, but discrepancies may exist between data sources used to create this system. If you find errors, please notify us so that we can correct them promptly.
